Moving

So here's the story... Our lease on the home we've been renting for the last three years is up May 30th. At the beginning of this month our landlord contacted us and told us he was going to raise the rent an additional $200 for the next year. I told him ok... well... I'll have to look and see what homes are renting for now and see if that kind of increase is warranted.

I did some searching online (craig's list is great for finding rental properties)... and at least from my perspective his $200 increase seemed quite extreme. Everything in our area is renting at right around $1 per square foot, and that was exactly what we were paying BEFORE the increase. I explained this to our landlord and he said that he's not interested in square footage but that everything else is renting for much more than his home... well... most renters DO care about square footage! Including us :)

To be fair he does have somewhat of a valid point... that being that his home is about the smallest home you can find in the area. But why would we... or anyone rent one home for the same price as another around the corner that is 200 square feet larger. He was pretty surprised when we told him we we decided if he is going to raise the rent we were going to move. He gave us a counter offer dropping the increase by $30... well that wasn't enough, so we decided to move. We're considering purchasing a home instead of renting since I just took a new position at work, but with the real estate market slowing down some we're still not certain that's the best move.

Some friends of ours in the neighboring ward (Susan, Jacoba, and Cooper Smith) have offered to let us stay with them for a little while while we find a new place. They are actually pretty excited to have us over. They are the family that always watches Dallin for us whenever we needed a sitter. Susan takes business trips every once in a while and is pleased to have us around to take care of Jacoba and Cooper. Plus Dallin loves having the kids around to play with all day long!

Fathers and Sons

Dallin and I went on our first Fathers and Sons campout this weekend! We had a blast. Dallin loved camping out. Here's some great pictures of use putting up the tent and roasting marshmellows .

In the morning Dallin loved following the big kids around while I helped make breakfast. We had a good time.
